The
erotic is a source of tremendous knowledge and power... Sexual desire springs
from deep and complex sources.... (Rofes,
1996: 105).
Historically
For Many Adolescent Males:Masturbate / Orgasm / Super Guilt. Scenario to
be repeated, no matter what were the beliefs learned if one did this. How
does this work? Chemical cocktails in brain? But 'something' within 'saying':
"Time For Sex!" Socially programmed "conscious" powerless to stop it, but
clicks in after orgasm - Guilt Time & Promises!
Ditto
for many males reporting on their former fight against "Homo Desires"!
Excellent way to get what one wants: Get drunk, then say "Not my fault.
Not real me! Out of character!" SO: Everytime 'inner one' says "Time for
Sex with Male," the situation set up to make this possible.
Drugs
and alcohol were also mentioned as playing a role in unsafe sex. 'When
I get drunk and horny, all bets are off... I am unable to say no when real
horny, and attracted to a guy, or when drunk' (Johnston,
1995: 196).
SO: Everytime 'inner one' says "Time for Unsafe Sex
with Male," the situation set up to make this possible. (Noted by Odets,
1995: 219.)
It
makes sense according to this theory that in 'explaining' unsafe sex my
interviewees should judge unsafe sex practiced by others as evidence of
character flaws - irresponsibility, stupidity, sexual incontinence, low
self-esteem, self-destructiveness - but judge unsafe sex practiced by themselves
as largely influenced by circumstances - forced sex, intoxication, the
influence of intimate relationships or 'hot' partners (Johnston,
1995: 198).
I.E.,
maybe choose one who will 'force' you do do what you desire to do (then
not my fault!), or get drunk / take drugs (not my fault), or chose partner
causing overwhelming feelings (lost my mind!). Not My Fault? Maybe way
of dealing with what one was always 'powerless' to stop - as with masturbation
in adolescence.
"The
Language of Love: Other reasons for experiencing difficulty in making changes
can lie in the emotional meaning that certain sexual acts have... 'When
he sucks, he insists that his partner come in his mouth: 'If you don't
swallow it, you haven't given him anything'" (Prieur,
1990: 113).
From
One "Oz" Episode (HBO) - The African-American (Harold
Perrineau in the role of Augustus Hill)
who makes commentaries: The issue of "half-truths" is noted, and he asks
why half-truths are not called "half-lies"? In the next commentary, he
states something like: "Now love, the ultimate half truth!" Human often
use to word "love" in such as way as to end up saying: "I do not love you
anymore." Maybe, they never "loved" the individual to begin with.
