"You
think you can determine your actions with free will? Far from it! Your
conscious action is only a drop on the surface of the sea of unconscious
process, of which you can know nothing about which, indeed, you are afraid
to know" (Wilhelm
Reich, 1948 - 'The Function of the Orgasm": 33).
"During
my interviews, I found that getting gay men to talk about unsafe sex was
difficult. Perhaps our community has made it intolerable to discuss unsafe
sex because we wish to convey the impression that gay men practice safer
sex consistently and enjoy doing so" (Johnston,
1995: 195).
OR:
Most gay males set up to just NOT want to go to "where" The Meaning
of Semen lies. The AIDS Calgary Experience (1991):The response of highest
risk gay males to needing the semen of other males as based on "Trade"
history.
Does
it still exist? [Frank Ruggero: My seed is in you] "There are times
when I want cum so badly that I fantasize going to a straight man who is
uninfected or a gay man who is uninfected and asking him for his cum...
" (Johnston,
1995: 212). How many gay males would be as honest about this, if
it applies?
"Listening
to these friends' stories and the way they explained how they came to engage
in unprotected anal sex, convinced me that our collective inability to
address the psychological and quality-of-life needs of gay men at the center
of the epidemic was taking a toll. I arranged meetings with prevention
specialists, but found myself speaking to brick walls. They seemed
so invested in public health worldviews which saw prevention efforts divorced
from psychological and sociological interventions. Concepts such as unconscious
motivation or chronic trauma had no meaning to these men. It was as if
Freud had never existed" (Rofes,
1996: 88-89).
"The
erotic is a source of tremendous knowledge and power. It is of the mind
yet goes beyond the mind; one with the heart, yet greater than the heart;
rooted in the soul, yet branching beyond the soul. Many gay men know that
the erotic is a force of metamorphosis; our lives provide indisputable
evidence of its transformative powers. Sexual desire springs from deep
and complex sources and tapping into it unleashes energy and creativity
which makes us stronger, clearer, and more engaged in the richness of life"
(Rofes,
1996: 105).
